The monument is guarded by powerful underwater mobs called Guardians and their larger variant, the Elder Guardian. Its main purpose is to protect the valuable treasure block, the sponge, and contains a hidden core room. Players often challenge it to obtain sponges, prismarine blocks, and the "Elder Guardian" achievement.
